Dateline 1st July 2004

Keeping you up to date with Shooting in Liphook.

Here we go again, a bit later than we had hoped but we have got new news for you

First the Petersfield District Shooting Competition

The results for the District Shooting Competition are posted in full on the club web site. We must thank Scrolin for all his hard work on the site as it does take a lot of time and effort to keep it running. The total entries were under what we had hoped but the skill level was high - some contestants entered with only a little air rifle experience, which makes their efforts all the more commendable.

Pierre for once failed to get into the medals, Robert Chester and Matt Carrig taking his place. Robert Hyndman shot a good second place with Nick Hutty pushing him hard. Toby Galtress and Alan Burgess just out of the running.

The star of the competition has to be Robert Alderman as he won the Six Yard air rifle. 10 Metre Air rifle and the Six Yard Pistol, in fact every thing he was eligible for!! His 50 beat everybody competing (even adults). Well done Robert, but and it's a big but as he now moves up an age group! But (again), Dad's coming to his rescue with a lovely new recoilless rifle! Not only that he used MY b****y pistol! (don't look at my score) (I had just driven 350 miles from the Lake District!) After a super weeks trout fishing. Did I tell you about the 4.5lb Wild Rainbow Trout I caught on the first day………(not the one that got away then! - Scrolin)

On to the 2oo4 Field Shoot

A super day, or rather weekend as we set up on the Saturday and camped overnight with competitors ready for the fray. We had an evening filled with shooting and Bar-b-q`s and a video with the compliments of Duncan Peacock. A vote of thanks to Duncan for all his help with the scoring, please come again next year!

Thanks must go to all the lads and lasses who did all the hard work as range officers, we could not run the event without their help. Liphook's Mums and Dads also deserve a vote of thanks for all their support and help.

Again the results are published on the web site as are the pictures, good old Scrol!.

Junior gold went to Robert Chester, now due to move up an age group! So watch out for the Nationals! Alan Burgess shot a very good second place!

In the Senior event Liphook lost out to Amit Chauhan ( National Squad) and Alexander Strange with Matt Carrig, fighting hard for the bronze medal.

The senior event without too much surprise gave the gold to John Barnes who has really made Field Shooting his own " Field" ( Oh God why do I do It?). Vince McGarry shot well all through the day and deserved his reward. Duncan Peacock managed to juggle recording the results and winning Bronze - and we want him back!!

The Snooker was a new event this year after we bought our own target. Many thanks to Annette for lending there target. Josh Peacock shot a smashing top score with Pierre Reader pushing hard, followed by that name again Robert Alderman, shooting against older and probably wiser people.

Own rifle produced some very good scores Nick Peacock (Yes Twin brother to Josh) followed by Rebbecca Saint and Charlotte Bain, two super lasses who can teach the boys how to shoot! (All three plus Josh are in the National Squad)

Long Range shooting was another new event this year. A copper gong was placed out in the field at some 40 yards and ten shot invited at it! The low powered rifles did not quiet get there but was made up by the super shooting from Rebeka Pidgley shooting an open site rifle getting a straight ten out of ten!! John Barnes also shot the ten with a scoped rifle. The shoot off was super entertainment, Rebeka hitting her three followed by John who plinked two and dropped his third (Bless him, Thankyou) Matt Carrig shot to third place with a borrowed rifle (thanks Scrolin) as his spring was not up to the job.

A further word about John Barnes. I had an email that told me :-

hi dave, (and Scrolin ed.)
Thanks for putting on another great event. We all enjoyed it very much. A big thank to all your helpers and organizers.
Also a big thank you to John Barnes who was extremely helpful and kind to the Scouts all day, his unselfish acts went as far as giving away without a second thought his medal to Charlie Bain as she had lost hers in the grass as we were leaving, this was not unnoticed by our Leaders and we would all like to thank him, its nice to know that true Scouting is very much alive in Hampshire

Can I say more? Only that next year's field shoot is over the weekend of July 2nd & 3rd 2005. Put it in your diaries now!

Don't forget the HSRC Clay Shoot on October 2nd and the Nationals, now at Bisley, 15th—17th October.

Chris "Scrolin" Stephen and me, Dave Evans are always at the end of the phone or email for all your shooting queries.
