Liphook has been making a name for itself in National Scout Shooting over the last few years. To move on from this we wish to encourage Petersfield District as a whole to become a centre for shooting excellence. As a first step on this path we organised and ran a District Shooting Competition.
Competitions were offered in the disciplines of 6 yard air rifle, 10 metre air rifle and 6 yard air pistol with each discipline being broken down into the following age groups (ages calculated on the day of competition) :-
Provision was made in the rules to allow the merging of age groups within a discipline where there were insufficient entrants to provide competition.
In each discipline, entrants were required to shoot four cards, five shots on each card, with the best 2 cards counting towards the entrant's score. Tiebreaks would be settled by the 3rd and if necessary 4th best cards. There were 21 competitors, approximately 800 shots were fired and 160 target cards were scored in the competition.
In addition to the age group competitions, awards were also made in each discipline for the best score of the day by a youngster and for the best overall performance. Although the adults were excluded from this part of the competition, in the event they were very soundly beaten by the youngsters in two out of the three disciplines!

Matt Carrig and Robert Alderman were equal highest scoring youngsters with a score of 71. Matt Carrig was awarded the shield for the best (youngster's) score of the day on applying the tie break.
It is quite an achievement to be able to gain firsts in every discipline. To do so against older opponents is even more remarkable. So we have no hesitation in awarding the shield for Best Overall Performance to Robert Alderman.
