Keeping you up to date with Shooting in Liphook.

The 28th Scout National Air Rifle Championships

Well we went, but did not conquer all, but came away with some well deserved medals!

This year`s event took place at Bisley the home of shooting, the move to Bisley from Walton Firs was due to us filling up the site at Walton Firs, it`s sad to leave but the future is bright for Scout shooting at Bisley, with the fantastic facilities available to us in the Lord Roberts Centre and the good offices of the National Smallbore Rifle Association together with the help of the National Rifle Association. See the HSRC web for full results and pictures from the weekend are in our picture gallery.

Firstly the Club`s thanks must go to Bryan Jackson and Jasper Gooding for running the camp over the weekend and getting the lads to the right range at the right time.

The main competition is the Duke of Connaught`s Shield. We put in a strong team of Matt Carrig, Pierre Reader and Robert Chester who managed to achieve 8th place from a field of 69 teams. Very well done to them as they were up an age group this year.

Now a good bit, the 6 yard Senior Own air rifle was won by Robert Chester (gold medal) and second place to Pierre Reader (silver medal) but watch out Robert as Pierre was only one point behind! Robert had a good position in 6 yard rifle with a position of 5th and came 22nd in the Biathlon a new competition this year.

6 yard air rifle (under 14) The silver medal went to Robert Alderman. This competition had 135 entrants! Very well done Rob.

And it goes on, Robert was pipped into 4th place in the junior air pistol event (field of 206), he had the same score as the bronze medal but lost out by one point on count back! And on — he was also equal 2nd in the Ken White Trophy, only being pipped by one point (shame there's no metalwork for 2nd in that competition), and still more — 4th in the Chief`s Prize. Never mind, there is always next year!

Must mention Matt Carrig who was placed well in all events, 14th in the Vintage air rifle for example. Though we will not mention the Field Target comp! Neither will Scrolin or I!! We both shot badly all weekend as did David Alderman but as he says, being a Range Officer and attempting to shoot don`t go together!

I`m sure we all had a great weekend and look forward to next year, when hopefully we can enter bigger teams.
